Power Plugs Closeup

Basic, Regular, and Super Duper Plugs - What's Inside

Basic Powerlet Plug - What's Inside

Clamping screw threads into body's plastic material. No wire strain relief is provided. No rubber grommet for the wires. You can silicone seal the wire to the plug, making a seal and a wire strain relief.

Deluxe Powerlet Plug - What's Inside

Clamping screw threads into brass insert in body's plastic material. A metal strip with 2 screws clamps the wires. A small rubber grommet relieves strain for the wires. If the wire sheath does not fit tight, apply some silicone to totally seal out moisture.

Super Duper Powerlet Plug - What's Inside

Body casting is longer to hold large rubber strain relief boot. Everything else is the same as Deluxe plug above. The rubber grommet on this plug has quite a large diameter. I recommend silicone sealing inside the grommet.

Rear end of all three plugs. Left to right - Basic, Deluxe, and Super Duper plugs.

Notes:

- all three plugs above share the same high quality business end

- body castings are all from the same material and identical in design except the super duper has a rear extension on the body.

My recommendation is the deluxe plug. This plug has a grommet that seals well on most wire sheathing. If you want a shorter plug, consider the right angle plug below.

The Super Duper Plug is really designed for two pair of wires.

The Right Angle Plug is designed for very small wires only.

Powerlet plug with 90 degree rubber boot.

Right Angle Plug

-for strain relief on wires - wires are pinched by castings in the body halves when closed. A rubber grommet (not shown here) is included for wires.

- business end has only two metal ground contacts compared to 6 on all other plugs

- the right angle plug presents a wiring problem due to the screws used to hold the wires. I suggest tinning the ends of the wires with solder.

Powerlet 90 Degree Rubber Cap,  Powerlet Socket, and Right Angle Plug make for a low clearance install front and back.

The terminals on the back of the Power Socket make clearance difficult for the right angle rubber boot. See the Socket/Eatras page for my low clearance solution.
