The Tankbag Page - powering your tankbag

Here on the right is a classic Eclipse tankbag with the Basic Tankbag Kit installed. A short adaptor Deluxe Plug to SAE plugs into the Powerlet Socket on the kneepad and the SAE socket on the front of the Tankbag Kit.

I simply tuck the wire under the tankbag mounting strap as shown, to keep the wire from being blown around at higher speeds.

Most importantly, the wire can't get caught in the handlebars or steering stem. You don't want this wire to get caught when you make a sharp turn at low speeds.

Below is a photo of the inside of the tankbag. On this bag, there is a plastic stiffener that runs around both sides and the back of the bag, but not the front. This makes the front a good place to mount the Tankbag Kit. Your bag mounting position may vary. Note: The liner is pulled back here to show the inner mounting. Normally the liner actually covers most of the inner parts of the Kit shown here.

Here below is a view of the front of the tankbag with the Kit installed. Notice the weatherproof cap is off to show the SAE plug contacts.

Below is the interior of the tankbag with a Dual Cigar socket adaptor attached. See the photos below to see what I typically hookup to these sockets.

All Powerlet products shown on this page are available here.

I'm a photographer, so below are the things I need power for. An Image Tank to hold 20GB worth of digital photos and a digital camera battery charger are musts on the road for taking pictures. Your choices might be an MP3 player and a cellphone. Lots of things plug into cigar sockets - laptops, GPS units, AAA battery chargers, and many more. You can plug in a multi-cigar outlet if you need more than two things powered. Remember, you don't want much heat inside a tankbag, and these things all need some ventilation. Plus, you shouldn't power higher current devices from a cigar socket. Don't fill you tankbag with clothing and things packed around a powered unit. Allow some air circulation around your powered units. You might put the powered units on the top with some air space above them. If the unit gives off more than just a little bit of heat, be careful! You don't want a fire in your tankbag!
