Modular Socket Kit Components

You can build a complete Socket installation by ordering only the components you need here. These components are mostly interchangeable and modular. The female T-Connector is used to plug into any of the sockets listed below.

Some Kits like the Cable Socket and Paneltop Socket Kits are complete Kits, as these sockets are not modular.

Leads - start with the wiring needed from power source to socket, either fused or unfused.

What you see here on the right is the hidden advantage to ordering your socket leads from me. You can see the quality factory crimping you get on all of my Kits. I use very expensive Pressmaster crimpers to get results like this on every crimp.

You can do it yourself but you can't get crimps like these. I know, because I've tried all brands of cheaper crimpers and they just don't do a good job.

You can pinch and solder etc., but you could have wire breakage or other problems later on.

Sockets really do need the T-Connector for a good connection without polarity problems.

Fused Leads - these leads can be ordered in any length. They come with 14 AWG high temp wire, high temp sheathing, two 15A fuses, your choice of waterproof fuseholder, cable ties, heavy duty Sumitube sealed battery terminals and a female T-Connector to plug onto a Socket or male T-Connector.

Unfused Leads - these leads without fuseholder can be ordered in any length. They come with high tenp 14 AWG wire, high temperature sheathing and a female T-Connector attached. They are designed for use with a fusebox.

Socket Extensions

These simple extensions make it easy to run longer wires to a Socket in a different location. Plugs into a Socket T-Connector and provides a T-Connector for the Socket.

Sockets - chose the type of socket you want, according to the plug used and the space available behind your socket mount location. Further down you will also find Socket Mount Brackets.

Regular Powerlet (BMW type) Socket - these are the best quality sockets available and provide a secure and waterproof connection that's perfect for motorcycle use. See the Powerlet Pages for plugs and adaptors which will plug into these sockets. You will need about 3"(76mm) of clearance for this  socket with a female T-Connector and straight rubber boot attached. The female T-Connector makes an easy wire connection to this socket while ensuring proper polarity. The straight rubber boot keeps out dirt and moisture.

Low Profile Powerlet Socket - this is a regular Powerlet Socket with soldered on 6"(15cm) leads, a male T-Connector, and a right angle rubber boot. This socket is for where you don't have enough clearance behind a panel for a female T-Connector and Rubber Boot. You will need at least 1 1/2"(39mm) of clearance for this low profile socket. Order a PMI-008 thick rubber spacer for maximum rear clearance. Needs 11/16 inch hole.

Fairing Pocket Adaptors If you already have a socket on your fairing these adaptors will allow you to put a Cigar Socket or an SAE Plug in your fairing pocket by simply plugging in a Fairing Pocket Adaptor and a Second Socket Wiring Kit above. Or install on individual Socket Leads direct to a fuse panel. The male T-Connector coupler is left unplugged to allow easy wire insertion in a small hole in the fairing pocket. Plug the terminals into the Coupler after running the wires. I also sell Grommets here, if you'd like to have a grommet to fill any hole you drill for wiring. Particularly suited for sportbikes but useable on many bikes.

Socket Wiring Spacer Low Profile Socket Bracket

Rearset kit uses a socket bracket under one mounting bolt of a rear footpeg bracket. Use a steel spacer to keep the bracket aligned, right angle rubber boot to keep out dirt and moisture, and your choice of bracket. A Powerlet Low Profile Socket and socket leads complete the Kit.

The brackets can also be attached to frame bolts, handlebar bolts, any many other places on a bike. The brackets have a 8 mm mounting hole which can be drilled out larger if necessary. The brackets are black anodized tempered aluminum.

ADVrider Waterproof Low Profile Socket Kit

Specially made for those who depend on their equipment far from the beaten path.

Everything about this Kit is special. The Kit uses a specially prepared Low Profile Powerlet Socket. The wires are soldered to the socket, then Sumitube sealed. Then an extra layer of Sumitube is applied to seal up the end of the wires under the boot.

The low profile connector is a two pole Sumitomo waterproof connector that totally seals out moisture from the connector. Its terminals are nickel plated brass and factory crimped with rubber seals to the wires.

All wire is cross linked high temperature wire. Wire sheath is high temperature cross linked sheathing.

The fuseholder is a Metri-Pack waterproof ATM unit with the hot wire fully sheathed right to the battery terminal where both battery terminals have Sumitube applied to totally seal out moisture.

The Low Profile Socket comes with the right angle rubber boot off for easy installation. Once the socket is mounted, the boot slips easily over the connector terminals and onto the Socket. Then the terminals with their rubber seals already installed are pushed into the connector and locked in place. Finally, larger diameter Sumitube seals the connector to the wire sheath on both sides (not shown here).

Powerlet Socket Cable Mount Complete Kit

Paneltop Socket Complete Wiring Kit

Socket kit made to install on a panel or dash. Leads come with special right angled terminals. This Powerlet Panel Mount Socket mounts with two screws from below. It includes a tethered cap to keep out dirt and moisture. The socket body has built in finger holds to securely grasp the socket when plugging or unplugging. Includes two 15A fuses and cable ties.

On the right you can see the underside of the paneltop socket has two male tabs. The wiring is crimped with Amp Faston terminals with Sumitube shrinktube. This tubing is heated and bent as shown below and it holds its shape providing stress relief and better connection than regular right angle terminals.

Plug-Together Socket Kits

The above photo shows one possible combination using Powerlet components. These combinations offer you the versatility of adding different adaptors, powering a heated vest, or even charging your bike. Since the SAE plug is capped, you can stow the battery cable somewhere under your seat and just bring it out when you need it. The clip for the cigar socket will securely hold the socket when in use or when stowed. A cap is also available for the cigar socket.

Using different adaptor lengths increases the versatility. Shown above is a Kit with a total of 28" (71cm). Change to the PAC-024-18 and increase the total to 42" (107cm). Or if you need more length on the battery lead, change to the PKT-001-48 for combined lengths of 42" (107cm) or 66" (168cm).
