Short Trip to Ikawa April 5th 2006

ikawa1-trip

I got off to a late start, but had to go to town and pickup some shrink tubing anyway.

After meeting at least a dozen huge dump trucks going up the hills, I decided enough was enough and took a break, then headed back the 15 kilometers or so I'd gone on the main hills. I did stop twice for the photos you see here. Of course I couldn't stop at the hairiest curves or the narrowest roads, but these photos should give you some idea of what I was up against on these roads. To say they are challenging is an understatement. These roads are extremely dangerous, even without the trucks. I found water in many spots, it got cold and dark, and there were a lot of sticks, gravel, and old dead leaves on the road in places.

The roads look smooth and wide here where there is a place to turn off. Most of the roads are not wide and they're very bumpy and rough. They are a heck of a lot of fun though, on days and places where there aren't so many trucks. I kept hoping I'd get above the construction site where they were coming from, but I never did get that far. I'll go back another day, hopefully when the construction is done, and the roads are in better shape and cleaner.

The cigar plug on the GPS loosened up several times and has to go. Do NOT use a cigar plug on a bike.

I took lots of photos of the bike showing the large Givi box on the rear, and the new little tankbag. You can see my funky new beige seat here as well.
