Today was very warm so I decided to try the mountain pass north of town. I took the long way of course. The little hill below is my favorite road to start into the mountains on. It's a half hour from my house and it's where the fun starts.
Heading out of town, this neat little road winds up this hill with a nice view back of the city.
This is a very little used road, narrow and strewn here with cedar tree debris and bits of gravel. I love roads like this.
I didn't stop for photos but near the top there were some stretches covered in ice and snow. Lovely curves all the way of course.
More curves. I only saw one car today and it was a good sign because I knew I could make it through all the way over the pass.
Right at the top of the pass there's this shrine you can see here from the road.
There are guardrails here but in many areas there aren't, just a straight drop way, way down.
Here's the view out the other side with the Pacific in the distance. I'm heading down to that valley.
These mirrors are invaluable to tell if a vehicle is coming. You learn to check them at the same time as not riding off the road.
Coming down half way now. Below is the valley where I'm heading back to the city at the far end.
