Heated Grip Adaptor  -  Factory Heated Grips Adapter

DL650-2012on Accessory Adapter  -  Headight Cut Adaptors

Brake/Tail/Signal Adaptors  -  ABS Switching Adaptor

Handlebar Wiring Extensions

NEW DL1000s from 2014 on and 650s from 2017 on - these new models have Non-H4 headlights and different wiring in many areas. This means the H4 Relay Kit and the ABS Cut Adapter won’t fit. I have some Kits and Adapters specifically for these models here.

VStrom Heated Grip Adapter

Connects to the factory heated grip connector using the connector above. Use for heated grips or other low current accessories. Also useful for relay switching. The stock heated grip connector on the bike has both a switched hot and a ground.

The stock heated grip connector supplies power to this adaptor only when the bike is on.

You can power and ground any low power accessory from this stock plug. However, it is not designed for higher current applications. I would suggest a maximum of 7A for this connector.

If you’re thinking to power a GPS from this connection, be aware that whenever you shut your bike off, power to your GPS will go off too. Many GPS have onboard battery power but it can still be tiresome every time you shut off to push a button on the GPS to get it to continue on battery power. I like my GPS powered full time with backlighting on high.

The Factory Heated Grip Connector - is found behind the left side of the radiator. Often the rad needs to be loosened on the left and moved forward to find the connector. See this page on Stromtroopers for pics to help locate your stock connector.

Specifications:

This adaptor features factory crimped terminals, high temp 16 AWG leads, and high temp sheathing.

Sumitube shrinktube sealed on the connector to keep out moisture and provide wire strain relief.

If you want to buy just the housing and terminals, buy the 2P-HM090 Male on this page.

VStrom Factory Heated Grip to Fuse Panel Adapter

Specifications:

The factory heated grip connector is not the best place to supply power to heated grips. And if you have a fuse panel and the factory Heated Grips, you’ll likely want to connect the factory heated grips to your fuse panel. This adaptor will allow you to do that and get full power to the grips, without having to cut and splice any wires, and avoids placing any extra load on the factory wiring.

Factory crimped terminals on 16 AWG leads with high temperature sheathing.

With the same plug as the factory heated grip plug behind the radiator, this adapter plugs right into the factory heated grips and gives you enough wire to go to your fuse panel.

Adaptor is 36” (92 cm) in length.

VStrom Brake/Tail/Signal Adapters - see installation info here

NOTE: The new DL1000A has different connectors, see here for adapters to fit this bike.

Version 1 - has one wire for each wire in the VStrom’s rear connector. This provides ground, brake light, tail light, and signal lights connection ability. Hyper-Lites flashing LED brakelights can use this adaptor.

Version 2 - is for using a Brake Light Modulator like the Backoff XP, where the modulator goes inline. In this version the tail, signal and ground wires are simply wires joined to the VStrom’s rear wires. The brake light has two wires: red is input, purple is output.

And there are many more possibilities with these adaptors. All without cutting a wire on your bike. Simply plug this adaptor in and then attach your circuits using Posi-Locks or any other connector of your choice. See my Connectors Pages for many choices. Wire lengths are 24” (61 cm). This is plenty of length to reach all the way to the front of the underseat tray.

NOTE: On the VStrom you will find the connector on the left side clipped to the rear subframe. It will be necessary to remove the rear carrier and loosen the tail section to get to this connector and plug in the adapter.

VStrom Handlebar Wiring Extensions

barwire-extension-adaptors

These adaptors are handy when you’re adding bar risers and need more length in the stock wiring.

All the adaptors above give a 10 inch (25 cm) extension to the handlebar wires.

PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY: The VStrom headlight wiring normally runs through these connectors. The VStrom has no headlight relays from the factory so the current is quite high. Eventually heat develops at the point of most resistance. Arcing happens and eventually connection is lost and the connectors look black and burnt. You likely lose your headlights. Adding these adapters without adding headlight relays adds to the overall resistance of the headlight wiring, therefore increasing the chance of a meltdown on a connector. I always recommend adding one of my H4 Dual Headlight Relay Kits to any VStrom, but when adding these bar wire extensions it is a MUST.

About the 4P adapter above: 2012 on DL650s are using this INSTEAD of the Horn Extension. These bikes also use the Left and Right Bar Extensions. The new DL1000A is unknown if it’s changed, or like the 2012 on DL650s. Check yours if unsure.

Early VStrom Right 6P Handlebar Wiring Extension $26.95

Quantity:

6P090K-SMHMAbout this adapter: Early VStroms up until about 2004/5 have a 6 position connector on the RIGHT side rather than the standard 8 position connector of later bikes. They also might not have the extra 2P Horn Connector on the left side. If you have an early VStrom, please check if yours has the 6 position connector before ordering.

If in doubt, check your bike: Remove the fuel tank and look down in front of the air filter. You will see the handlebar wire connections there. I don’t know what the new DL1000A uses, so please let me know if you find out, thanks.
