PC-8R Fuse Panel - Positive Ground

The New Power Center 8R ( PC-8R ) is a PDM / Fuse-box for powering accessories on small vehicles such as motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles, camping trailers etc. It provides 6 switched and 2 battery direct fused connections. With a rating up to 40Amps it is suitable for many applications. All that is needed is a battery connection & a switched input signal. Perfect for getting wires off the battery terminals, and managing power to accessories.

Size (not including mounting ears): 81mm x 58 mm x 30mm (3 1/4” x 2 1/4” x 1 1/8”) - (L/W/H)

Specifications and Features:

- 4 threaded insert nuts provide case mounting and fuse panel installation mounting points

- comes with an assortment of ATM fuses, one for each output circuit and a few extras

- 8 hot + outputs (2 un-switched circuits, 6 switched circuits)

- Switched circuits are turned off when the bike is shut down. An un-switched circuit is always hot - can be used for charging the battery

- 8 ground outputs - much better to ground your auxiliary circuits here than on a bike’s frame

- maximum fuse panel capacity 40 Amps

- 30 Amp max switched. 20A max un-switched ( combination must be under 40 Amp total )

- maximum output circuit capacity 15A continuous

- maximum output wire size 12 AWG (3 sqmm)

- Spare fuse holder inside the PC-8R case ( can be use to hold 2 spare fuses )

- all hardware is stainless steel (except input posts which are tin plated steel)

- black satin polycarbonate cover makes unit splash-proof yet allows it to breathe and stay cool

- cover mounting tabs on each end can be broken off or left on, depending on mounting choice

- simple robust design means no overheating and no problems with vibration

PC-8R Fuse Box With 40 Amp Wiring Kit

There are two types of wiring kit for the PC-8R. The switching lead is the same for both type kits. The main difference is the current capacity.
40 Amp kits use a LP JCASE fuse and 10AWG wire, whereas the 30A kits use a Bussmann type ATO fuse holder and 12AWG wire. For most bikes up to 600cc the 30Amp version is more than sufficient. For Adventure and larger cruiser type bikes, we recommend the 40A wiring kit or the PC-8 50A Kit

PC-8R Fuse Box With 30 Amp Wiring Kit

The 30A amp kit is good for bikes with up to around 600cc. The wiring is a little more compact than the 40A kit and the main fuse is more easily found. The wiring kits are also a little less expensive. This is a great kit for smaller adventure bikes like the CRF250/300 Rally or Versys-X 300.
It is also great for most sports bikes, where under seat space is minimal. I run one on a KTM 1290 Super Duke to power USB ports, Navi,
ETC ( Highway Toll Payment system ) and Heated Grips.

PC-8R Fuse Box - Positive Ground Motorcycles ( Accessory Fuse Box )

This is a modified version of the PC-8R to work on positive ground vehicles.

This version of the PC-8R fuse box can be used on positive earth ( GND ) motorcycles or vehicles, such as old Nortons, Triumphs or Harleys.

Connection Note:

When installing on a positive earth vehicle, the battery (+) connects to the PC-8R GND input & the battery (-) connects to the PC-8R 12v input. The switched input would be a -12v signal ie not earth. Also note, the PC-8R has a loop though on the switched input. Only the -12v switched signal needs to be connected, that is, no earth.

Suitability & Reliability

Suitability:

The PC-8R is suitable for vehicles with Stators up to 600w. Consider a motorcycle with a 590watt stator. Power from the stator has to charge the
battery, power the ECU, lights, ABS, and all the other original devices on the bike. Typically between 25% and 33% of the stator power will be used up by the bike
itself. So a 590w stator may only be able to provide between 442w and 393w for accessories. Any time you are using more than the stator can produce, you
are discharging the battery & the bike voltage will reflect that. In short, a 40A fuse box is suitable for about 90% of bikes on the market today.

Reliability:

The PC-8 has proven to be one of the most reliable fuse boxes for small vehicles. We've been selling them for over 12yrs and during that time we have seen
less than three failures. With no capacitors to dry out or electronics to be zapped by static, the PC-8 should be just about as reliable today, as one sold 10yrs ago. We've taken the same approach with the PC-8R. The on board automotive grade relay is specified to operated at half it's rated continuous current. All components are RoHS compliant and many components are UL listed. The PCB is 94-V0 rated and the polycarbonate case is quite tough & fire resistant.
