When assembling, it is generally better to feed the wire though the battery post cap. Crimp on the terminal you will use to the cable. Then install the cable/terminal to the battery and pull the cap over the battery post. Be very careful, to avoid short circuits. Always disconnect the negative first when disconnecting and connect the negative last, when reconnecting.
